Hosts

Julien Oeuillet (曾樂昂) is a Kaohsiung-based English-language journalist, broadcaster and documentary filmmaker covering power and culture in East Asia.

He hosts and produces "Taiwan versus the World" for Radio Taiwan International, exploring Taiwan's international relationships beyond the familiar China-US frame. He previously created and hosted "Voice of South Taiwan", RTI's English-language programme devoted to the people, society and culture of southern Taiwan.

In Kaohsiung, he reports on communities, local politics, cultural life, urban transformation and the city's international connections. His wider coverage includes international affairs, cross-Strait relations, cities, media, the arts and cultural industries. His work combines geopolitics with human interest and increasingly follows Taiwan's connections with Japan and South Korea.

His field reporting, book reviews and columns appear in Taipei Times, while he writes profiles and features for CommonWealth Magazine. His CommonWealth work is also published in Chinese by Crossing Magazine, and he contributes to Monocle Radio.

Earlier in his career, he worked in radio and documentary filmmaking at RTBF in Belgium and as a television and radio reporter for SBS in Australia. He has also reported from Lithuania and the Democratic Republic of Congo and produced television programmes and documentary work for TaiwanPlus. His reporting and commentary have appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Interpreter, Firstpost, The Brussels Times and other international outlets. He is the author of four nonfiction books.
