Sitting vice president and candidate from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and vice presidential running mate Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) have won Taiwan’s 2024 presidential election. Lai’s victory ensures another four years in the Presidential Office for the DPP, following eight years of the Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) administration.

As of 8:13 pm Saturday, with 97% of polling stations reporting, the Lai-Hsiao ticket won with 40.2% of the vote, a total of 5,392,928 votes. KMT candidate and Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) and his running mate Jaw Shaw-kong (趙少康) came in second place with 33.4% of the vote. In last place was third party TPP candidate Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) and his running mate Cynthia Wu (吳欣盈) with 26.4% of the vote.

Both Hou and Ko gave concession speeches as the number of polling stations counted reached around the 90% mark.
