The Defense Ministry announced on election day that a Chinese military aircraft was detected entering Taiwan’s southwest air defense identification zone (ADIZ). Two Chinese balloons also crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait.

The ministry said that a total of eight Chinese military aircraft, six naval vessels and two balloons were detected around Taiwan between Friday 6 a.m. and Saturday 6 a.m.

The ministry added that the Chinese balloons were observed flying at an altitude between 20,000 feet and 22,000 feet, with one of the balloons passing over the southern part of the island before entering the eastern Pacific Ocean.

The ministry stated that air and naval patrols were deployed together with land-based missile systems to respond to the activities appropriately.
