President Donald Trump and Vice President James Vance were sworn in as the 47th President and 50th Vice President of the United States, respectively, on January 20. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement extending congratulations on behalf of the government on Tuesday. The ministry said it looks forward to strengthening Taiwan-U.S. ties under the principles of mutual trust, reciprocity, and shared benefits.

The ministry highlighted plans to strengthen partnership with the Trump administration in key areas such as security, trade, technology, and education. These efforts aim to benefit both nations while promoting global and regional stability and prosperity. Additionally, Taiwan’s representative office in the U.S. also reaffirmed its commitment to fostering exchanges across all sectors.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei (蕭光偉) Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) and Taiwan’s U.S. representative Alexander Yui  (俞大㵢) were given special access to observe the ceremony in Emancipation Hall, reflecting the strong and friendly ties between Taiwan and the U.S. This marks the second time Taiwan has been invited to a U.S. presidential inauguration, the first being in 2021.

Due to space constraints, the other members of the bipartisan delegation led by Han watched the livestream from a designated VIP area. The outdoor ceremony had to be relocated due to freezing temperatures, limiting attendance.
