NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) has been announced as the final torch bearer for the 2025 World Masters opening ceremony, taking place tomorrow in Taipei and New Taipei City.
Huang, picked for representing technology’s role in sports, will join four other Taiwanese torchbearers: baseball legend Peng Cheng-min (彭政閔), Olympic boxing gold medalist Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷), Guinness World Records’ oldest badminton player Lin Yu-mao (林友茂), and acclaimed actress-director Sylvia Chang (張艾嘉). Like his fellow torchbearers, Huang mentioned he was extremely honored to have been chosen as a torchbearer, saying that being among such high-achieving athletes reminded him that excellence results from passion and persistence. Alluding to AI’s growing role in sports, he said, “The future of sports is evolving, and we’re just getting started.”
The executive committee said that Huang was chosen in part because of his role as a leader in the global semiconductor and artificial intelligence fields. In addition to having founded NVIDIA and his work as a key driver of AI, deep learning, and high-performance computing, he has a profound influence on the technology industry. Huang’s participation in the ceremony symbolizes both technology’s role in sports development and the multifaceted values that define modern sport and the spirit of the Games.
Outside of technology, Haung personally mentioned his love of table tennis, saying that the best sport for anyone is one that they truly enjoy. To the participants in the 2025 World Masters Games, he says, “You are an inspiration. You’ve shown that passion doesn’t fade with time. Whether you're competing, cheering, or simply enjoying the moment, it’s your spirit that matters. Keep pushing forward and proving that greatness has no age.”
Each torchbearer was specifically chosen as a representative of a value of this year’s sports, with Peng for sports as a whole, Lin Yu-ting for youth, Lin You-Mao for inclusion, and Sylvia Chang for culture. Together with Huang, the five torchbearers will help kick off the World Masters Games in tomorrow’s opening ceremony, each helping to light the torch with symbolic flames to represent the diverse values of contemporary sports.
