A six-member delegation of UN permanent representatives from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies arrived on Monday. The group is scheduled to call on Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and meet with relevant government ministries on issues of concern within the UN system, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Members of the delegation include Guatemalan Permanent Representative Ambassador José Francisco Calí Tzay, Haitian Permanent Representative Ambassador Ann-Kathryne Lassègue, and Marshall Islands Deputy Permanent Representative Samuel K. Lanwi, Jr., along with their spouses.
During their six-day stay, the delegation will meet with several senior officials, including Labor Minister Hung Sun-Han (洪申翰), Mainland Affairs Council Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑), Council of Indigenous Peoples Deputy Minister Qucung Qalavangan (谷縱), and National Human Rights Commission Vice Chair Chi Hui-jung (紀惠容).
The Foreign Ministry says the delegates have long supported Taiwan’s international participation, particularly in the World Health Organization (WHO) and other UN-specialized agencies. It says this trip will not only provide the group an opportunity to learn more about Taiwan but also provide relevant ministries and agencies a better understanding of the operations of the UN system.
