Conditions in the Northwest Pacific remain conducive to typhoon development, with tropical storms expected to form this week and next. That’s according to meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), who also warned that high temperatures and severe thunderstorms are forecast across Taiwan.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a heat alert Tuesday for 12 counties and cities, including New Taipei, where temperatures may exceed 38°C. The public is advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure due to the risk of heat stroke.
Experts are also monitoring the oceans, as the latest European model simulations indicate a tropical storm is brewing east of the Philippines and is expected to enter the South China Sea on Wednesday. By the end of the week, the system may strengthen into a typhoon. Wu said the storm should track westward, posing no threat to Taiwan, though other tropical systems are likely to develop southeast of the island next week.
