United States media outlets published an op-ed by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), calling on the international community to support Taiwan's participation in the UN. Following the 80th UN General Assembly opening on September 9, the letter titled “ ‘Chip in with Taiwan’ for global peace and prosperity” was sent to 21 city weekly newspapers in Southern California.
Lin emphasized that China has maliciously distorted UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, excluding Taiwan from the UN system, and urged them to recognize Taiwan's international status and contributions. He pointed out that Taiwan, adhering to democracy and freedom, is located in the first island chain of the Indo-Pacific, resists the expansion of authoritarianism, possesses a strong economy and semiconductor industry chain, and makes important contributions to global stability and prosperity.
With the UN celebrating its 80th anniversary with only five years remaining until the deadline of its 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, its vision of “Leave No One Behind” can be realized only by integrating Taiwan into the international community.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director Chi Chin-yao (紀欽耀) also recently spoke out in support of Taiwan, underscoring that Taiwan actively contributes to humanitarian aid, public health, sustainable development, and is a responsible global partner. He emphasized that participation in the UN system is the inalienable right of Taiwan's 23 million people.
