Officials from Belgium's Flemish Region are visiting Taiwan as the first cross-party delegation of its kind since their June 2024 elections. This Monday Taiwan's Foreign Ministry expressed its welcome and shared expectations for the trip. The ministry says it believes the visit will help deepen exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the region.
Belgium's major politically defined regions include the Flemish Region, the Walloon Region, and the Brussels-Capital Region. The predominantly Dutch-speaking Flemish Region accounts for over half of Belgium's population.
Taiwan's Foreign Ministry stated that Deputy Foreign Minister François Wu (吳志中) will host a banquet for the delegation during their stay. They are also expected to meet with Legislature Deputy Secretary Chang Yu-jung (張裕榮), government agencies, civic groups, representatives from the three major parties represented in the Legislature, the National Human Rights Commission, National Development Council, and more. The ministry says they will exchange views on bilateral economic trade cooperation, sustainable urban development planning, and human rights.
