A recently submitted military proposal will allocate over NT$1 trillion (more than US$33 billion) over seven years, setting a record for the largest special budget in Taiwan’s history.

To further develop Taiwan’s arsenal, the Defense Ministry is seeking a special budget exceeding NT$1 trillion (over US$33 billion) allocated over seven years, which would set a record for the largest in Taiwan's history if approved.

President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) spoke on the difficulties his administration has encountered trying to strengthen Taiwan’s national defense capabilities, including increasing the defense budget, conducting military procurement abroad, and promoting the defense industry. He said that the special budget will enable transformation and upgrades, and further development.

The bill includes integrating an AI battlefield management system, adding perception capabilities with firepower units, enhancing those abilities to deepen combat readiness, and establishing an independent supply chain. This will rapidly build Taiwan's asymmetric combat capabilities and a comprehensive defense system.

Legislator Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) notes that self-help leads to help from others. Only when Taiwan demonstrates resolve to protect itself will the international community cooperate in this regional security network.

Whether or not the special budget is approved, the government continues to enhance Taiwan's defense capabilities, demonstrating the Taiwanese people's resolve to defend themselves.
