Changhua County’s Lukang Old Street always draws a crowd. According to the Tourism Administration, it is the most popular old street in Taiwan.
The iconic Lukang Old Street in Changhua County is paved with red brick and flanked by traditional Minnan-style houses. Many shop interiors retain the staircases characteristic of old style homes. Here, you can purchase food, handicrafts, and cultural and creative products, making it a popular shopping destination. The street teems with tourists every weekend.
According to statistics from the Taiwan Tourism Administration, Lukang Old Street attracted more than 12 million visitors in the first half of 2025, making it the most visited old street in Taiwan.
Citizens say Lukang Old Street retains a more old-school atmosphere than other old streets and the prices are fairer, as well. The street is quite large, boasting more than 100 businesses that offer a diverse range of goods. The traditional pastry shops are especially popular.
Competition among old streets in Taiwan is fierce. Lukang Old Street is the highest-ranked old street in the country, with Qishan Old Street and Jiufen Old Street taking the second and third spots. With such a diverse array of businesses and a rich historical and cultural heritage, it’s easy to see why Lukang Old Street takes the cake.
