A record number of senior educators were awarded at the Excellent Teacher Awards this Thursday. Attended by President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), and Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao (鄭英耀), the annual ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of teachers across Taiwan. This year, 72 teachers received the Teachers Award, 20 received the Education Contribution Award, and 523 were awarded Senior Outstanding Teachers with 40 years of service.
President Lai thanked the educators for their hard work and dedication, allowing children to fulfill their dreams and secure a bright future. Lai said, “While the award winners come from different cities and counties, different schools, and different fields, they all share an unwavering passion for education, unwavering love, and unwavering commitment to educational ideals. Everyone’s willingness to unleash creativity, go above and beyond, and make extra contributions to students and education is truly admirable. Once again, on behalf of the nation, I express my gratitude."
Lai outlined the government's education policies, including promoting educational equality and providing tuition subsidies for high school, vocational school, public, and private universities. He also emphasized the government's focus on holistic education, balanced physical and mental development, and uncovering students’ potential. Lai added that the government will continue investing in education.
Premier Cho emphasized that teachers are the most important part of connecting with the world through learning processes in an age with rapid AI development. He said he believes that where teachers are, young people will find hope.
