As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, Typhoon Ragasa was located 350 kilometers southwest of Eluanbi. The storm has so far caused 34 incidents and six injuries nationwide, with torrential rain prompting residents near the Fata’an River in Hualien to evacuate.

Although Ragasa’s center only brushed the southern tip of Taiwan overnight, it generated heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms on the windward side. From Monday through Tuesday morning, accumulated rainfall exceeded 300 millimeters along the east coast and in Pingtung County, with more than 200 mm recorded in New Taipei City and Taoyuan.

Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) canceled an appearance at the legislature Tuesday morning to review the latest developments at the Fata’an River landslide dam. Central Emergency Operation Center (CEOC) officials have warned the barrier lake, which formed in July after a landslide, may overflow earlier than expected due to the typhoon. The overflow was originally projected for October. More than 8,000 residents from surrounding villages and households have already been evacuated.

Meteorologist Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) said that even as Ragasa moves away, localized heavy rain is still possible in Taipei, southern Taiwan, Hsinchu, and Chiayi. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) warned that while rain should ease slightly Tuesday evening in northern Taiwan, it will continue to affect Hualien, Taitung, Kaohsiung, and the Hengchun Peninsula through Wednesday. The agency has issued heavy rain advisories and warnings accordingly.
