Radio Taiwan International (Rti) issued a statement on Sunday regarding an incident in which hackers accessed their official website. The station has provided information to law enforcement and is requesting an investigation.
On the evening of September 11, Rti discovered its official website had been hacked by unknown individuals and replaced the homepage banner. They have since submitted the relevant evidence to the Taipei City Police Department and the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau, in addition to requesting technical assistance and an investigation. The incident has also been reported to the Digital Ministry.
In the days following the initial attack, the official website was subjected to repeated cyberattacks around the clock for several days, significantly impacting Rti’s operations and public image.
Given Rti’s status as a government-funded national broadcaster, Taiwan’s only dedicated international broadcaster, and key infrastructure vital to national security, it is a potential target for information warfare and cyberattacks by individuals both domestically and internationally. As such, they have expended a great deal of resources to prevent and detect such intrusions and have stated their intent to pursue justice to the furthest extent of the law.
