Video script:
Japanese actor Satoshi Tsumabuki has returned as Taiwan’s tourism ambassador, exploring southern Taiwan in a promotional video that showcases the region’s distinctive attractions and lively food scene.
In the two-minute film, Tsumabuki visits Kaohsiung and other nearby destinations, describing his journey as deeply moving and saying he could truly feel Taiwan’s charm. One highlight features a dessert shop where a pineapple is used as the bowl for a colorful fruit ice treat made with eight kinds of fresh fruit, all meticulously arranged. Tsumabuki praised the experience, unable to resist eating spoonful after spoonful.
Local vendors said the actor’s visit brought more attention to their businesses. In the video, Tsumabuki also tours Kaohsiung’s Sanfong Central Street, sampling a variety of local goods and soaking in the festive atmosphere typical of the Lunar New Year. Shopkeepers warmly greet him and offer generous tastings.
The video has proven effective in boosting tourism from Japan. According to the Tourism Administration, more than 680,000 Japanese travelers visited Taiwan in the first half of 2025, an 11.56% year-on-year increase. In September, the total surpassed one million—reaching the milestone a month earlier than last year—confirming steady growth in the Japanese visitor market.
