Belize Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Katherine Vanessa Meighan has started her appointment with a focus on bilateral trade and investment. Ambassador Meighan assumed the post in September and presented her credentials to President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) at the Presidential Office.

In an interview on Thursday with Rti, Meighan reflected on her experience as an International MBA student at the National Chengchi University two decades ago, and called her return to Taiwan a “full-circle moment.”

She says that experience gave her a deep connection to Taiwan, and she hopes to strengthen cooperation as she begins her new role. Ambassador Meighan noted that Taiwan today is “bigger and better,” with growing international opportunities. But it is still the welcoming place she remembers.

Looking ahead, she says trade and investment will be a major focus, including expanding exports such as Belize’s premium cacao and newly approved frozen shrimp. She also hopes to build on women’s empowerment initiatives and fast-growing education exchanges. “I'll tell you that 20 years ago when I came, there were two scholarship holders from Belize. Now there are 64 that came in September of this year.”
