Pegatron Chairman T.H. Tung (童子賢) said that the third Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant restart process could begin as soon as early 2028. He spoke in an interview before attending a Chunghwa Nuclear Society event on Monday, December 8. Tung stated that, in efforts to reduce climate change impact, the coexistence of nuclear power and green energy is inevitable, and Taiwan needs an affordable, high-quality, and stable source of electricity.

Tung said he is pleased that relevant government agencies and leaders are taking this issue seriously. Regarding Taiwan's climb to 16th place in the Global AI Index, up 5 places from last year, he pointed out that with only 23 million people, Taiwan still plays an indispensable role in the information and electronics industry and requires the power to maintain its position.

Economic Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) stated earlier this month that the power plant has already passed Taipower's independent safety inspection. He confirmed that if all procedures advance smoothly, the power plant could pass the Nuclear Safety Council's review and restart in 2028.
