Taiwan–Philippines cooperation continues to gain momentum under proactive policy support, with Taipei seeking to link its “Taiwan–Philippines Economic Corridor” initiative to the U.S.–Japan–Philippines-backed Luzon Economic Corridor. The two sides have intensified exchanges in recent months across agriculture, fisheries, port development and investment coordination.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung said relations have deepened steadily over the past year, marked by more frequent high-level engagement and expanding policy coordination. When he met Philippine Representative to Taiwan Corazon A. Padiernos on Tuesday, Lin said Taiwan hopes to establish an institutionalized cooperation framework to provide clear, shared principles for Taiwanese companies investing in the Philippines. He also called for smoother communication mechanisms between the two governments to strengthen investor confidence.
Lin has repeatedly emphasized aligning the Taiwan–Philippines Economic Corridor with the Luzon Economic Corridor, including through cooperation with Japan. He said such linkages would help ensure the First Island Chain is not only a security framework, but also an economic, technological and trade network that enhances regional resilience.
