A mass shooting occurred on Bondi Beach, in Sydney Australia Sunday, December 14, with 15 people, including one child, dead and 27 injured. The attack occurred at a Hanukkah event, and has been called by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese an antisemitic terrorist attack.

On Monday, December 15, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) extended his condolences to the victims and all those affected by the attack. In a social media post, he added that Taiwan “strongly condemns all acts of terrorism and stands with the people of Australia & the Jewish community during this difficult time.”

Mass gun violence is rare in Australia, and Sunday’s attack is the deadliest incident since 1996. Not much is known about the perpetrators, besides they were father and son – the former was killed by police, and the latter is in critical condition. Authorities are still investigating the incident, and it is likely that Australia will pass even stricter gun control laws in the wake of this tragedy.
