A delegation led by Deputy Speaker Johnny C. Chiang (江啟臣) made their first stop in the Czech Republic as part of their diplomatic visit to Europe. That’s according to a press release from the vice speaker’s office on Tuesday. 

The cross-partisan delegation visited the Chamber of Deputies where they met Deputy President Věra Kovářová and held discussions with other members of parliament. Kovářová extended an invitation to Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) and Deputy Speaker Johnny C. Chiang to visit again in 2025, with the purpose of jointly attending the opening ceremony of the exhibition "100 Objects, 100 Stories: Treasures from the National Palace Museum." 

The group also visited the Czech Republic National Museum, Charles University, and the IC Design Overseas Training Center set up by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) with Czech Technical University.

Chiang noted that since the signing of the Taiwan-Czech friendship cooperation agreement, this is the first official visit and symbolizes the sincere friendship between Taiwan’s Legislature and the Czech Chamber of Deputies. He emphasized that the Czech Republic shares universal values ​​such as democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law with Taiwan, and is also a partner through substantial exchanges in education, culture, and technology, providing examples such as the direct flights from Taipei to Prague and the establishment of the IC Design Overseas Training Center to expand tech cooperation.

Accompanied by members from the Taiwan-Czech and Austrian Parliamentary Amity Association and the Taiwan-Spain Parliamentary Amity Association, the 13-day diplomatic trip includes visits to the Czech Republic, Spain, and Italy. The delegation plans to return to Taiwan on August 1.
