Paraguayan Health Minister María Teresa Barán will visit Taiwan next Monday to deepen exchanges in public health and medical services, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

During her visit, Barán will tour several hospitals and medical centers and is scheduled to meet with officials from the Foreign Ministry, Health Ministry, and the International Cooperation and Development Fund, the ministry said.

Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Deputy Director-General Lu Chao-Jui (盧朝睿) said Barán has consistently voiced support for Taiwan in international health forums since taking office in 2023, including at meetings of the World Health Organization Executive Board, the World Health Assembly, and the Pan American Health Organization.

Lu said, “The health minister of our ally Paraguay, Barán, will visit Taiwan next week on January 26 to gain a firsthand understanding of our country’s development in disease control technology, medical expertise, and elderly care. This will undoubtedly help deepen the medical and health exchanges and interactions between our two countries.”
