On Tuesday, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) awarded the Order of Brilliant Star with Special Grand Cordon to former Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová. The award recognizes her significant contributions to strengthening Taiwan-Czech relations.
President Lai commended years of collaboration between the two democracies in areas such as trade, investment, and technology. He emphasized that this partnership is based not only on shared values but also on genuine, long-term economic potential.
Lai recalled Adamová's 2023 visit to Taiwan, during which she led a delegation of 160 members despite facing external pressure. He described the visit as a milestone that conveyed her message of solidarity with Taiwan. Additionally, he highlighted her advocacy for peace in the Taiwan Strait, her promotion of pro-Taiwan resolutions in the Czech Parliament, and her efforts to bring artifacts from the National Palace Museum to Prague, as examples of her friendship with Taiwan.
In her remarks, Adamová expressed her honor at receiving the award from President Lai, highlighting Czechia’s deep appreciation for freedom and democracy. She described Taiwan as a partner that embodies courage, open-mindedness, and a commitment to peace. Adamová stated that the award is not merely a personal honor but a symbol of the enduring friendship between the people of Taiwan and the Czech Republic.
