Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced on Wednesday that he is halting the government's approval of Nvidia's AI innovation and R&D center in Taipei. He stated that the project should serve as a model for successful collaboration between central and local authorities, highlighting how these municipal partnerships can promote balanced regional development.

During his speech at the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei (IEAT) networking gala, Cho praised the collaboration between the central government and Taipei City for securing the presence of the U.S. chip giant in the capital. He highlighted that Taiwan's 2025 economic growth rate reached 8.63%, marking a 15-year high, along with record exports totaling US$640.75 billion. He attributed these accomplishments to coherent policies and effective joint governance at multiple levels.

Cho said the AI hub is part of the government’s NT$300 billion (US$9.47 billion) “Taiwan Chip-based Industrial Innovation Program,” which aims to secure the nation’s technological strength over the next decade. He noted that the Economic Ministry and the Interior Ministry worked with Taipei City to resolve land-use issues swiftly, ensuring NVIDIA’s presence in the Neihu Tech Park.
