To increase international support and recognition for Taiwan, Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s International Information Services Department Chang Hsiu-chen (張秀禎) stated that this year’s international media visit program will include “special delegations.” This includes journalist delegations from the Middle East, Northern Europe, New Southbound Policy countries, and Taiwan’s diplomatic allies, in addition to the existing political and economic press tours.
International media visits are one of the International Information Services Department’s main tasks. Chang explained that this year’s planning aims to focus limited resources on the practical needs of diplomacy and policy communication, making media visits more effective in supporting Taiwan’s external communication and diplomatic work.
Chang noted that from March to November this year, 12 international media visit delegations are planned. The operational approach will continue the annual practice of advance planning and early preparation by overseas missions, ensuring that the overall media visit program is implemented in a systematic and well-paced manner. The main difference this year is the inclusion of special delegation design, making media visits a more direct tool for external communication and diplomacy.
Per Chang, the delegations will focus on combining existing press tours with international organizations and major events, expanding regional outreach, and strengthening policy communication with diplomatic allies. The overarching goal is to further the overall impact of Taiwan’s international communication and continue to enhance Taiwan’s visibility and influence in the international community.
