The Czech Senate passed a resolution on March 4 reiterating that UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 does not involve Taiwan, reaffirming its support for Taiwan's participation in international organizations. On Friday, March 6, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) expressed sincere gratitude to the Czech Senate for its concrete actions in supporting Taiwan, and that Taiwan will continue to deepen cooperation with like-minded partners such as the Czech Republic on the existing foundation.
The resolution specifically commended Senate President Miloš Vystrčil's visit to Taiwan and also emphasized the Czech Senate's 30 years of commitment to developing mutually beneficial relations between Taiwan and the Czech Republic. The senate expressed hope that the two countries will continue to strengthen cooperation in areas such as research and development, innovation, startups, chips, advanced technologies, and security.
The Foreign Ministry stated that the pro-Taiwan resolution was proposed by Czech Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman and Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) co-chair Pavel Fischer, and passed with the support of cross-party members of parliament. The ministry pointed out that this is the second time the Czech Senate has passed a pro-Taiwan resolution with a similar theme, following one passed on April 29 last year.
Fisher has long supported Taiwan, consistently pushing for pro-Taiwan actions in the Senate. He led a delegation to Taiwan in September 2025 and was awarded Taiwan’s Friendship Medal of Diplomacy in 2023. Vystrčil is also a staunch supporter of Taiwan and has plans to visit Taiwan again this year.
