President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), who also serves as DPP chairman, attended the third New Immigrant Affairs Advisory Committee certification ceremony on Wednesday at the DPP headquarters. He personally presented certificates to 21 members representing Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, and new second-generation immigrants and their families.
Committee members wore traditional attire from their home countries, showcasing cultural diversity. During interactions, many shared their life stories in Taiwan, repeatedly affirming "Taiwan is my home" and expressing deep attachment to the land. The atmosphere was warm and heartfelt.
In his speech, Lai highlighted how new immigrants enrich Taiwan's society with diversity and boost economic and social vitality. He noted Taiwan as a place not just for settling but for realizing dreams. Lai pointed to recent government efforts, including the 2024 Newly Revised Immigration Act for rights protection, and a new policy, starting this year, extending foreign parents' stay from six months to one year if their child has Taiwan household registration, based on Nantou meeting feedback.
Lai is committed to guiding the administration to improve policies that meet real needs for a warmer homeland. He reaffirmed the DPP's 2004 "Ethnic Diversity, National Unity" resolution, embracing all who identify with Taiwan.
