A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Hualien County at 8:14 p.m. on Thursday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported.
According to the CWA, the quake occurred 25 km south-southeast of Hualien County Hall, with a focal depth of 15.5 km, and aftershocks still being felt.
Taiwan rates earthquakes on an intensity scale from 1 to 7, with higher numbers indicating stronger quakes. Intensity level 4 was felt in Hualien and Nantou. Level 3 was reported in Taitung, Taichung, Yilan, Chiayi County, Changhua, and Yunlin. Level 2 was felt in Miaoli, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City, Chiayi City, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Taoyuan, New Taipei, and Taipei. The lowest intensity, level 1, was recorded in Pingtung and Penghu.
