Taiwan is famous for its fruit, but one farmer in Pingtung has grown exceptional wax apples that have surprised the public with their flavor and size.

Fruit farmer Wang Jui-hsiung (王瑞雄) in Ligang Township, Pingtung County, has grown an enormous wax apple that weighs over one kilogram. A child happily holds the wax apple next to their face, showing its impressive size.

The farmer explained that the record-breaking wax apples are mainly due to careful variety selection and fertilizer management. Additionally, the typical wax apple season is four months long, but this year it was harvested one month later than normal, in March, which gave them an extra month to grow.

However, at NT$1000 (over US$31) each, will people buy them? One woman sampled the fruit and said it was incredibly juicy and sweet.

This farm is usually known for its Black Diamond wax apples, but this time, the farmers jokingly said they accidentally turned the wax apple into a papaya, drawing unexpected attention. With dates, eggs, and papayas placed nearby for scale, the size of their wax apple is quite eye-catching.
