Several U.S. lawmakers have expressed support for Taiwan on the 47th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act coming into effect on April 10, 1979.

He added that he was looking forward to further strengthening of relations and that he firmly opposed coercion in the region.

Rep. Don Beyer wrote on X that the Taiwan Relation Act’s promotion of democratic aspirations, strengthening of an economic partnership and support of Indo-Pacific stability is an example of what thoughtful U.S. foreign policy can achieve. Rep. Joe Morelle said that Taiwan remains a vital economic and cultural partner, while Rep. Suzan DelBene said Taiwan plays a crucial role in Washington state’s economy. Both posted their remarks on X.
