The Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, April 21, that it welcomes U.S. efforts to strengthen cooperation on economic security issues with regional partners, and that Taiwan itself will continue to expand cooperation with key partners to build secure and resilient supply chains. This came in response to questions about the Philippines joining the U.S.-led Pax Silica initiative, which aims to shore up trusted supply chains for advanced technologies like semiconductors and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei (蕭光偉) said Taiwan and the United States signed the Joint Statement on the Pax Silica Declaration and U.S.-Taiwan Economic Security Cooperation in January, which established the framework for Taiwan’s participation in Pax Silica. Hsiao said Taiwan will continue to expand cooperation with the U.S. and other key partners to build secure and resilient supply chains. He added that the ministry will provide timely updates on any further progress on the matter.
