The U.S. House Appropriations Committee has earmarked US$500 million in military aid for Taiwan. The stipulation came in the draft of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Security, State Department, and Related Programs Appropriations Bill on Thursday, April 23. To become law, it must still be approved by the House and the Senate before being sent to the U.S. president for signature.
The document says no less than US$500 million will be made available for assistance to Taiwan provided that the secretaries of state and defense prioritize the delivery of defense articles and services for Taiwan.
The committee said in a statement that the bill maintains robust funding for allies like Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Taiwan despite overall fund allocation being six percent lower than last year.
