The final batch of 28 M1 Abrams tanks purchased by Taiwan from the United States arrived at Taipei Port on the evening of April 26. They were transported by civilian-owned large flatbed trucks from Taipei Port to the Army’s Armor Training Command in Hukou, Hsinchu.

The Army has approximately 1,000 armored vehicles, including the CM-11 Brave Tiger and M60A3 tanks, but these have been in service for over 20 years. In addition to purchasing new engines for the M60A3s, the Army has allocated over NT$40 billion (nearly US$1.3 billion) from 2019 to 2027 to procure the 108 Abrams, or M1A2T, tanks, hailed as the "most powerful tank on earth."

The first batch of 38 M1 Abrams arrived in Taiwan in December 2024, the second batch of 42 in July 2025, and both batches are now in service. After equipment conversion, testing, and combat readiness training, this final batch of 28 will be deployed to the Sixth Army Corps to defend the northern region.
