The Foreign Ministry said on Thursday, April 30, that China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi (王毅) distorted the UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and maliciously misled the international community during his meeting with the UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock in Beijing on Wednesday, April 29.

Wang reportedly told Baerbock that Resolution 2758 has completely resolved the issue of China’s representation at the UN, which includes Taiwan. He said China commends this and opposes any words or actions that challenge the authority of the resolution.

In a press release, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry condemned that statement and said the resolution only resolved the issue of China’s representation, with no mention of Taiwan nor affirmation. It does not affirm that Taiwan is a part of the People’s Republic of China and does not authorize it to represent Taiwan within the UN system. The ministry reiterated that the resolution has no bearing on Taiwan and cannot serve as a basis for excluding Taiwan from participation in the UN system.
