Officials from Taiwan and Haiti celebrated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in Taipei on Thursday, April 30. The Haitian Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Roudy Stanley Penn and Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) gave speeches honoring the long-standing relationship between the two countries, which established official ties on April 25, 1956.
“May this friendship, forged through history, continue to be a living force, a force that uplifts us and calls us to action beyond anniversary and symbols,” Penn said. “What truly defines our cooperation are the outcomes we achieve, the opportunities we create, and the tangible impact we have on our citizens’ lives,” the Haitian ambassador continued.
“Since 1956, our two countries have worked hand in hand to realize concrete progress in many areas, including agriculture, infrastructure development, public health, and education,” Lin said. “These joint endeavors serve as the foundation of our friendship and benefit both our peoples. Haiti has been one of Taiwan's most steadfast allies and has consistently stood with Taiwan in the international community,” Taiwan’s foreign minister added.
The ceremony for invited dignitaries at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Taipei Hotel featured lively dancing and musical performances reflecting the cultures of Taiwan and Haiti.
