Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) hopes Japan can negotiate an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and help Taiwan join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). That came during a meeting Lin held with a visiting delegation of Japanese lawmakers on Thursday, April 30.

The Foreign Ministry said in a press release that Lin met with former Japanese Digital Transformation Minister Masaaki Taira, former Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Seiji Kihara and former Cabinet Office Parliamentary Vice-Minister Daisuke Nishino. All three are House of Representative members for the Liberal Democratic Party. 

The meeting agenda included foreign policy, regional developments, cybersecurity and Taiwan-Japan exchanges. Lin thanked the Japanese government for fostering good relations and consistently supporting peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. He expressed hope that Japan would negotiate and sign an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Taiwan and help Taiwan in its efforts to join the CPTPP. This would further deepen Taiwan-Japan economic and trade relations and promote regional prosperity and development.
