The U.S. State Department has commented on President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) visit to Eswatini, stating that Taiwan is a trusted and capable partner of the United States, and that Taiwan's relations with countries around the world bring significant benefits to their citizens, including those of Eswatini.

In response to Central News Agency questions on May 3, a U.S. State Department spokesperson said that Lai's trip to Eswatini is a routine visit and should not be politicized. They stated that every democratically elected Taiwanese president has visited countries with which Taiwan has diplomatic relations, pointing out former President Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) visits in 2018 and 2023.

Despite the postponement of his trip last month due to alleged Chinese interference, President Lai arrived in Eswatini, Taiwan’s only African ally, on Saturday, May 2. The Presidential Office stated that this visit will focus on three main themes: security and prosperity, economic prosperity, and digital prosperity, to deepen the friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini.
