Digital Affairs Minister Lin Yi-Jing (林宜敬) says the SEMI E187 cybersecurity standard has positioned Taiwan as an international standards setter and opened major business opportunities. That came during a panel discussion at the CYBERSEC 2026 conference on Wednesday, May 6.
Lin said his ministry led a delegation to the United States in March to attend the RSAC 2026 cybersecurity conference. He said over 40,000 people visited the Taiwan pavilion and highlighted its two main draws: the SEMI E187 cybersecurity standard for manufacturing equipment and Taiwan’s expertise in responding to cybersecurity threats from China.
Lin said Taiwan is the leading force behind SEMI E187, which is the product of collaboration between TSMC and the industry association SEMI. Companies that hope to work with or sell equipment to TSMC must comply with the SEMI E187 standard. Lin noted that the certification process and assisting manufacturers in getting certified present business opportunities for Taiwan’s cybersecurity industry.
