A senior U.S. official told Taiwan’s Central News Agency on Sunday, May 10, that no changes in U.S. policy towards Taiwan are expected following the upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平).

The unnamed official said that Trump and Xi continue to engage in dialogue regarding Taiwan, and U.S. policy on Taiwan has not changed as a result of past meetings, nor is any change in this matter expected in the future.

The official also noted that arms sales to Taiwan during the Trump administration’s first year were an improvement compared to the four years of the previous administration. They did, however, express disappointment with the special defense budget passed last week, as certain provisions were not included in the final version.
