The Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturer Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, is entering a strategic partnership with the African sovereign AI infrastructure company Amini. The latter announced the collaboration, which also includes the French state-backed AI and quantum computing company Bull, in a press release on Tuesday, May 12.

The partnership aims to narrow the compute gap in Africa and the Global South and offer access to industrial-grade AI infrastructure to governments, telecom operators, financial institutions and energy companies. It also marks Hon Hai’s first infrastructure initiative targeting the African sovereign AI market.

Amini noted that Africa’s AI and cloud infrastructure is currently concentrated in the hands of a few providers. The three-way partnership between Amini, Hon Hai and Bull is a step towards building locally-led infrastructure that meets the continent’s sovereignty needs.
