U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in China late on Wednesday, May 13, heading a delegation of government officials and business representatives. He is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, May 14, and discuss issues including Iran, trade and Taiwan.
According to the BBC, a number of business leaders are traveling to China with Trump, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳), who was invited shortly before the trip. Others include Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Meta President and Vice Chairwoman Dina Powell McCormick, as well as a number of executives from the banking, aerospace and other sectors hoping to establish closer ties with China.
Nvidia’s Jensen Huang was not originally on the list of invitees, but joined Trump in Alaska, where the president’s plane stopped to refuel.
This marks the first time a U.S. president travels to China since Trump’s last visit in 2017, during his first term in office.
