Belize's Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard spoke in support of Taiwan at the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA) on Wednesday. Bernard stated that UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 does not preclude Taiwan's meaningful participation in the United Nations system and its specialized agencies, and that Taiwan's expertise would benefit the global community.

The WHA opened this Monday and on Tuesday, ten allies voiced support for Taiwan: the Marshall Islands, Guatemala, Palau, Haiti, Paraguay, Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia, Eswatini, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Tuvalu. Following Bernard’s statement, all 11 WHO member states that are diplomatic allies have spoken on Taiwan’s behalf at this session of the Assembly.

Palau, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Belize each specifically raised the issue of the misinterpretation of UNGA Resolution 2758 during this session.

In addition to making statements on Taiwan's behalf, all 11 allies also submitted a formal proposal to the WHO Secretariat prior to the opening of the Assembly, calling for Taiwan to be invited to participate in the WHA as an observer, requesting it be included as a supplementary item on the Assembly's agenda.
