Four Chinese Coast Guard vessels intruded into waters around Taiwan’s outlying Kinmen Islands on Tuesday, May 26. Taiwanese patrol boats shadowed the intruders, monitoring the situation and collecting evidence.
Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration says that four Chinese vessels were detected at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday approaching restricted waters around Kinmen. Pre-positioned patrol boats were immediately dispatched to the boundary line to respond. The Taiwanese vessels shadowed the intruders, performed close-range deterrence maneuvers, and issued warnings in Chinese and English. All Chinese ships left the restricted waters after 5:00 p.m.
The Coast Guard Administration strongly refuted China’s false claims regarding its jurisdiction over Kinmen’s waters, as well as its irrational harassment activities.
