For the first time, Taiwan is exporting mangoes, lychees, and dragon fruits to Europe.

Large ripe mangoes were sliced open, revealing golden flesh cut into bite-sized pieces – sweet, juicy, and aromatic. The display was part of the Agriculture Ministry’s launch event on Tuesday in Fangshan Township, Pingtung County, marking the first export of fruits to the European market.
Agriculture Minister Chen Jun-ji (陳駿季) attended the event and announced the shipment would be sold at Paris’ largest wholesale market. The first batch, totaling 6 metric tons, has been shipped and sealed and is expected to arrive on the shelves in France within three to five days.
In addition to mangoes, both lychees and dragon fruit are also part of the shipment, all noted for their high quality as Taiwan expands into the European market.
Chen emphasized that the export marks a key step in building long-term access. “Once an effective bridge is established, our other fruits can be imported into Europe step by step along this bridge.”
A trader said orders are already being fulfilled, with shipments continuing.
Each stage of the export process presents technical challenges. In recent years, the Agriculture Ministry has been strengthening its cold chain logistics system – from post-harvest precooling and standardized packaging to quarantine treatment and refrigerated transport – to support global exports.
Chen said efforts are focused on maintaining quality at the source and building infrastructure in Pingtung.
The ministry states it will continue international negotiations and expand into high-potential overseas markets, aiming to promote Taiwan’s premium agricultural brand worldwide.
