The government is planning to invest NT$20 billion (US$635 million) in the robotics industry and create a comprehensive supply chain by combining the strengths of southern Taiwan’s robotics cluster with precision machinery industries in the central part of the country. That came from Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Friday, June 5, at a roundtable discussion with industry representatives in Taichung.

Cho said that the government is setting up a robotics ecosystem around Tainan in southern Taiwan, which will connect with the existing precision machinery, machine tool, automation, and aerospace industries in the central part of the country, close to Taichung. This will strengthen the region’s role in robot components, control systems, complete machine systems, and smart manufacturing applications.

Cho added that President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) is concerned with the drone industry and has said that the government must connect different supply chains, which will help both the industry’s international expansion and domestic improvements.
