With Taiwan's Police Day approaching on June 15, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) visited the Second Special Police Corps of the National Police Agency on Friday to inspect the recently introduced drone training program. The president wished the officers a happy Police Day and emphasized that Taiwan will continue to strengthen its application of new technologies, enabling law enforcement, the armed forces, and the public to jointly safeguard the nation.

Lai pointed out last year’s NT$2.15 billion (US$68.3 million) government investment in police force drones and said the government will continue to enhance "technology-driven policing." He said that current geopolitical changes pose serious future threats, and in addition to increasing the military budget and strengthening frontline defense, the government must also empower the police with greater combat capabilities to maintain social stability and public order. The recent expansion and transformation of the Second Special Police Corps aims to transform it into a key force capable of both counter-terrorism and infrastructure protection.

The president also stated that, although the work of police officers is heavy, they have an unshirkable responsibility for national security and the safety of the people. Having taken on this job, they must do it well and bravely shoulder any challenge.
