KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) met with Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll on June 4, Taipei time, stating that Taiwan and the U.S. should continue to strengthen substantive cooperation in industry, economy, trade, and technology. Cheng is currently leading a delegation to the United States, first visiting San Francisco and now Boston.

According to the KMT press release, during the meeting, Cheng compared the United States’ democratic revolution 250 years ago to Taiwan’s just 115 years ago, the first democratic republic in Asia. She also pointed out that, in the face of the current international situation, cooperation should replace confrontation and war. 

Kim Driscoll stated that Massachusetts highly values ​​its close economic and academic ties with Taiwan and hopes to further leverage their shared strengths to develop together. She highly praised Taiwan's achievements and noted that Massachusetts has always been at the forefront of science and technology, saying that she hopes to deepen cooperation between Massachusetts and Taiwan.

In a later media interview, Cheng called the United States Taiwan's “benefactor,” and China Taiwan's “family,” so Taiwan should not become a pawn in great power competition. She underscored that Taiwan's true value lies in building bridges of understanding, communication, and cooperation between the U.S. and China, not in taking sides between them.
