The island nations of Taiwan and Palau will work together to show to the world that they are indispensable forces for good on the international stage. That came from Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) during a welcoming dinner in Palau on the evening of Sunday, June 7. Hsiao is currently heading a delegation on a state visit to the island nation, one of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies.

During the dinner hosted by Palauan President Surangel Whipps Jr., Hsiao said that President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) had entrusted her with three tasks: deepening the friendship between the two nations, stimulating tourism, and reviewing the achievements of joint projects.

Hsiao also thanked Palau for repeatedly speaking out for Taiwan at international forums. She said that a history of hardship on the international stage has forged Taiwan and Palau into more steadfast and resilient partners. Hsiao expressed hope that the cooperation between the two nations will evolve with the times and show the world that Taiwan and Palau are indispensable forces for good on the international stage.

Earlier on Saturday, Hsiao visited the Peleliu World War II Memorial Museum. During the visit she said that war brings untold suffering and called on the world to learn from history and pursue peace. Hsiao also said that the United States and Japan have now become important allies in the Indo-Pacific and expressed hope that all parties will work together to maintain regional stability.
