EVA Air General Manager Sun Chia-ming (孫嘉明) has been elected as a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Council. According to a Monday, June 8, EVA Air press release following the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sun’s appointment makes EVA Air the first Taiwanese airline to participate in IATA Council affairs.

Sun stated that he is honored to represent EVA Air on the council and will work hand in hand with international counterparts to contribute to the sustainable development of aviation.

IATA Director General Willie Walsh emphasized that he is very pleased to welcome Sun to the IATA Council. He said he looks forward to leveraging Sun's extensive experience in passenger and cargo transport to jointly shape the IATA's strategic direction and developmental priorities of the aviation industry.

The IATA is a non-governmental international organization headquartered in Montreal, Canada. It has become the most influential institution in aviation since its establishment in 1945, accounting for more than 80% of global air traffic. Furthermore, as the core of the global aviation industry, it plays a crucial role in connecting networks and ensuring operational standardization.

The IATA Council is the highest decision-making body, responsible for overseeing strategic direction and governance, and approving major policies and structures. Therefore, Sun's election as a member is highly significant, as it not only highlights EVA Air's outstanding contributions to international civil aviation affairs but also reflects the airline’s pivotal leadership position in the industry.
