The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) celebrated the 30th anniversary of its European office in Berlin on Friday, June 12. In attendance were the institute’s Chairman Wu Tsung-Tsong (吳政忠), Taiwan’s top envoy to Germany Gu Ruey-sheng (谷瑞生), former German Education and Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger, and over 120 representatives from industry, government, and academia.

Gu said in his remarks that ITRI’s European office has been continuously promoting international cooperation, serving as a vital bridge between Taiwan and Europe. He said the institute is not just an incubator for semiconductor companies but also a facilitator of commercializing innovative technologies.

Gu also highlighted Taiwan’s experience in de-risking its economy and reducing its reliance on China, which can serve as a model for like-minded partners pursuing similar strategies.

Gu and Wu jointly witnessed the renewal of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between ITRI and the German research organization the Fraunhofer Society. The new agreement will build on the basis of existing collaboration in healthcare, information and communications technology, and green energy, with the goal of expanding into emerging fields like artificial intelligence and robotics.
