Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) says he is looking forward to Taiwan and the U.S. continuing to deepen bilateral trade and investment cooperation to build safer and more resilient supply chains. That came in a social media post on Saturday, June 13, following a meeting Lin hosted on Friday with the U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) David Bisbee.

Lin said he received Bisbee at the Foreign Ministry to thank him for his long-standing support for Taiwan’s participation in WTO affairs, particularly during the organization’s 14th Ministerial Conference in Cameroon, where Taiwan faced significant political interference. He expressed gratitude for the U.S. assistance in communicating with Cameroon and the WTO Secretariat to ensure Taiwan’s rights as a full WTO member.

Lin said that international trade is changing, with the relationship between economic development and national security becoming increasingly close. Investment and trade between democratic nations are no longer purely commercial, and trust has become an important foundation for exchanges across borders. Lin noted that numerous trade agreements between Taiwan and the U.S. show that the two sides are key elements of each other’s economic security.
